Responsibilities:

  • Answer telephone and handle questions that do not require a pharmacist’s expertise or professional judgment. Direct calls to the pharmacist, when appropriate for questions about prescriptions, medicine, judgment decisions, etc.
  • Assist patients who are dropping off or picking up prescription orders and expedite processing as necessary and allowable by policy or law.
  • Verifies name and address (if applicable) of the person the new prescription is to be filled for, as well as, legibility of the prescriber’s name.
  • Assist pharmacists in preparing prescriptions by counting, pouring, flavoring medications, labeling containers, and pricing prescriptions
  • Accommodates customers when they arrive to pick up prescriptions.
  • Processes cash register transactions for new and refilled prescriptions.
  • Ensures necessary communications are provided to the customer, such as instructions, side effects, and medication descriptions.
  • Arranges customer consultations with the pharmacist, when requested.
  • Procure signatures from customers for all prescriptions received.
  • Communicate with insurance carriers to obtain payment for prescription claims and answer patient’s insurance-related questions
  • Prepare insurance claims and verify payments
  • Verify that the customer receives the correct prescription(s); ring purchases on the cash register and record them in logs where appropriate and when necessary.
  • Assure patient documentation is completed correctly as stated in policy and procedures
  • Instruct patients in the use of durable medical equipment and supplies as needed
  • Maintain a neat and clean personal appearance
  • Work with patients/clients to solve problems
  • Promote teamwork among co-workers
  • Demonstrates timeliness, courtesy, sincerity, and patience when dealing with customers
  • Completes and processes third-party documents.
  • Fill prescription books
  • File patient profiles
  • Fill bins with prescription vials.
  • Processes incoming orders to determine that items ordered were shipped and that items shipped are the same as items invoiced to the Pharmacy.
  • Affixes price stickers to the items ordered and places them on stock shelves or in the refrigerator when required.
  • Check stock to remove outdated items, as often as deemed necessary by the Pharmacist-In-Charge
