KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. ISO - Takes the lead role in ensuring that NSB’s quality system is maintained to comply with IATF 16949/ISO9001 and customer requirements. QM – Develops and implements a Quality Management program and corresponding manuals. Provide leadership in associated, supportive programs and develop them to be IATF 16949 compliant.
2. STAFFING – Develops and directs the quality/inspection department staffing.
3. TRAINING – Creates, implements and monitors training and related programs enhancing employee technical development.
4. PERFORMANCE EVALUATIONS – Develops performance guidelines/standards for the quality/inspection department staff, defines and sets departmental and individual staff goals in support of management objectives. Evaluates staff performance in relationship to the established goals and objectives.
5. VENDOR CERTIFICATION PROGRAMS – Working with the purchasing department, develops, establishes and maintains a certification program for NSB accepted and preferred vendors. Participates in the development of a solid base of approved vendors and participates in vendor surveys.
6. VENDOR PERFORMANCE – Works with purchasing to implement a vendor performance tracking system. This system includes an objective method of evaluating and rating vendor performance levels.
7. QUALITY COST INFORMATION –Provide accurate cost of quality information on a monthly, quarterly and yearly basis. Monitors and tracks all associated rework procedures, rework costs, scrap costs and overruns.
8. ENGINEERING CHANGE ORDERS –Review ECO’s and take appropriate action to ensure changes do not affect quality.
9. AUDITS – Develops and implements a program of internal quality audits. Develops follow up to audits to determine causes for delays, scrap and overruns, as well as, identification of corrective actions.
10. GAGE CALIBRATION – Implements a formal gage calibration program which provides a regular and consistent audit of calibration tools.
11. INSPECTION PROCESS – Investigates, establishes and implements requirements for inspection and testing methods, techniques and equipment. Determines frequency and allowable variation from specifications at various stages of the manufacturing process.
12. MATERIAL NON-CONFORMANCE – Audits and builds on current procedures for tracking of “non-conforming” material. Follows up with corrective action by means of identification of corrective measures, classroom training, and technical bulletins for internal company use.
13. WARRANTY-Tracks and monitors warranty activity and costs. With assistance from the engineering groups, analyzes and reports on causes of failures and starts the necessary corrective actions.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. SAFETY – identifying and eliminating hazards to provide a safe workplace, to reduce the risk of exposure to these hazards, and to contain the costs associated with accidents and injury.
2. TECHNICAL SUPPORT – Acts as liaison with other departments, sub contractors, and vendors in resolving problems related to design, manufacture, product acceptance for the customer from a technical standpoint, product performance, competitive cost and quality assurance; approves acceptance or rejection of materials, assigns non-conformances as requested.
3. PROCESS AND PROCEDURES – Develops and formally documents improved processes, procedures and standards for internal departmental use. If processes impact external organization, documentation is also required. This is required in such areas as geometric tolerancing, drawing standards, etc.
4. OTHER – Assumes additional responsibilities as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. BS in Manufacturing, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering and/or equivalent experience.
2. Five years’ leadership experience in Quality.
3. IATF 16949 knowledge preferred.
4. Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or greater.
5. Extensive manufacturing experience.
6. Experience using statistical analysis software (i.e. JMP) preferred.
7. Extensive SPC experience in a manufacturing setting.
8. Aggressive, driven to achieve results, and a motivational leader.
9. Able to develop the staff and create a team environment.
10. Demonstrate effective utilization of computer skills i.e. word processing, spread sheet, etc.
11. Effective oral and written communication skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor.
2. Exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 pounds of force frequently.
3. Visual acuity to utilize computer CRT screens.
4. Manual dexterity to key information into computer.
5. Mobility to travel via ground or air transportation.
