Fresh Foods Lead
Support the Fresh Foods Manager in directing and supervising all functions, duties, and activities for all Fresh Foods Departments, and handle the Fresh Foods Manager's responsibilities in their absence.
Assist in the management of the Fresh Foods Departments' inventory by monitoring weekly sales reports, and ordering supplies and products to meet the company's gross profit goals, customer requirements, and shelf standards.
Ensure a safe and clean environment that encourages customers to return.
Ensure the Fresh Foods Departments provide only top-quality fresh foods that will encourage return sales and further build Indy Fresh Market's reputation.
Create an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important, and appreciated by answering questions regarding products sold within the Fresh Foods Departments and throughout the store.
Maintain a constant awareness of the departments' inventory/stocking conditions, enforce shrink mitigation practices, and note any discrepancies in inventory.
Assist in planning and scheduling the work of all Fresh Foods associates, help oversee their training, evaluate and acknowledge their good performance, and ensure the departments' associates are performing their delegate assignments.
Help train and ensure that all Fresh Foods associates stay up to date with product knowledge, especially to effectively and optimally assist the store's customers.
Ensure Fresh Foods Associates work safely and comply with OSHA regulations and local, state, and government health policies.
Ensure the Fresh Foods Departments' compliance with all state, county, and local weights and measures laws, health codes, and labeling requirements.
Identify areas for improvement concerning customer service in the Fresh Foods Department, recommending to the Fresh Foods Manager the changes and procedures to address them.
Properly inspect the departments' equipment, notify the appropriate personnel of any items in need of repair as needed and as quickly as possible, and ensure the equipment continues operating appropriately.
Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained and temperature logs are maintained.
Handle matters delegated by Upper Management and the Fresh Foods Manager, concerning the departments' associate performance, discipline, and sales plans, among other matters.
Collaborate with other departments to develop marketing plans that align with the store's financial objectives.
Ensure that the Fresh Foods Departments are properly and fully merchandised while ensuring all products are fresh, labeled, and priced accurately in a manner that minimizes the store's inventory shrink.
Reinforce safety programs by complying with and enforcing safety procedures, identifying unsafe conditions, and notifying store management when issues arise.
Operate hand trucks, pallet jacks, and electric forklifts, (only if of appropriate age) to move heavy items and large quantities of merchandise.
Report all safety risks, issues, and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud.
Notify management of customer or associates' accidents.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Possess previous experience in the Fresh Foods, Deli, Bakery, Culinary Arts, or a closely related department, ideally in a management role. Experience as a Lead, Sioux, or Line Chef is a plus.
Demonstrate strong customer service skills and the ability to effectively manage customer interactions.
Exhibit exceptional organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities effectively and simultaneously.
Hold a High School Diploma or GED. Culinary training and/or a degree is a plus.
Communicate clearly and professionally with excellent interpersonal skills.
Thrive in a fast-paced environment and able to work efficiently and effectively under pressure.
Have the ability to hear, speak, and understand English in order to respond promptly to pages for assistance, answer telephones, and communicate effectively with other store associates and customers. Bilingual capabilities are a plus.
Read, write, and interpret English proficiently to understand and follow company handbooks, policies, procedures, and other job-related documents posted on company notification boards.
Demonstrate the ability to follow up on tasks and ensure they are completed thoroughly, accurately, and punctually.
Be available for off-hour calls and report to work as needed outside of regularly scheduled working hours.
Be proficient in Microsoft Office software to effectively complete job duties.
Requirements:
Must be at least 18 years old.
Hold a High School Diploma or GED.

Compliance: ability to ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulations.
Culinary Knowledge: solid knowledge base of fresh food products, culinary skills, food safety, sanitation regulations, and the operation of various pieces of kitchen equipment.
Ability to memorize and understand company policies, inventory control procedures, PLU codes, shipping and receiving procedures, check stand and keyboard operations, and product locations.
Ability to carry out higher than basic level mathematical operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division), including margins and mark-ups.
Ability to work flexible hours that include early morning, day, and evening shifts in a 365 day, 24/7 setting, including weekends, nights, and holidays.
Ability to occasionally lift, move, stack, and manipulate items of varying dimensions and weights up to 30 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds, from floor level to overhead.
Ability to operate stoves, ovens, slicers, among other pieces of kitchen equipment and occasionally pallet jacks, hand trucks, garbage and card board compactors, electric fork lifts, (only if of appropriate age) as well as a box knife or cutter.
