Major duties:

  • Maintains courteous and friendly customer relations.
  • Sees that all produce is properly prepared, trimmed, handled, and stocked.
  • Sees that all produce is stored in the backroom with proper refrigeration.
  • Rotates all produce merchandise according to code dating policies.
  • Applies proper stocking of items with proper allocations and presentation and keep displays, tables, and racks full and fresh.
  • Assists in display building as requested.
  • Does price changes as assigned.
  • Keeps the produce department fixtures, equipment, and area free from accident hazards at all times.
  • Sell, weigh, package, and price product.
  • Perform freshness checks and recondition product.
  • Handles all store property and equipment in such a manner as to secure maximum use.

Minor duties:

  • Does markdowns and reworks as designated by the produce manager, consistent with quality and quantity to sell items at a minimum loss.
  • Orders produce products.
  • Operate garbage disposal, hydraulic baler, and forklifts.
  • Operate pallet jacks.
  • Perform sweeping and cleaning functions.
  • Maintain sanitation standards.
  • Operate telephones and intercoms and practice proper telephone etiquette.
  • Follow all company policies as outlined in the employee handbook.
  • Performs other duties as assigned


  • Be a self-starter.
  • Read and write.
  • Add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
  • Follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Provide verbal and physical assistance to the customers.
  • Lift and stack up to 100 pounds.
  • Pull or push wheeled vehicles weighing up to 1,000 pounds.
  • Reach and stock product up to 6 ft. high.
