An employee in this position is responsible for preparing, assembling, frosting, decorating, packaging, pricing and displaying specialty cakes, pies and desserts. This employee will be responsible for speaking with customers to create special orders as well as producing specialty items to customer specifications. This employee informs customers about bakery/cake/dessert products and services and may be called upon to offer samples to customers. This employee may be required to utilize equipment such as mixers and ovens to complete their job requirements. A cake decorator may be responsible for innovation and creating new items, determining price points for items and keeping offerings fresh and seasonally appropriate.

  • Provides friendly and prompt service to customers
  • Answers questions and assists with locating products by taking a customer directly to said products
  • Assists customers in placing special orders in person and by telephone
  • Ensures cleanliness of bakery aisles, storage areas, and work areas; includes but is not limited to: cleaning/organization of shelves and products, keeping floors free of spills, removing hazardous debris from floor, sweeping/mopping.
  • Maintains clean, safe and sanitary bakery area and equipment.
  • Ensures all equipment is in working order and safe; alerts management when safety or cleanliness is a concern
  • Stocks, fills, faces products and displays
  • Ensures labeling and pricing accuracy
  • Maintains proper rotation of all bakery products and supplies
  • Receives and inspects deliveries to ensure proper inventory and accuracy
  • Requires operating and using equipment such as, but not limited to, mixers, ovens, knives, scales, slicers, wrappers, compactors, garbage disposals, pallet jacks, carts, and labeling machines
  • Prepares various bakery items according to department specifications and/or customer orders
  • Tasks will include preparing products for display, including assembling, frosting, icing, garnishing and packing various items
  • Utilizes knowledge of scales and weight measures to accurately weigh and label products
  • Participates in pre-inventory/inventory preparation
  • Keeps up to date on new products, seasonal items, existing products, product locations, and preparation techniques; may be tasked to create/produce new items
  • Walks department regularly to ensure an organized, sanitary, and overall clean appearance at all times
  • Maintains a positive work environment with fellow employees throughout the store
  • Maintains excellent communication with managers
  • Expected to be familiar with the entire store and it’s layout to ensure top customer service even if approached while not in the “home” department
  • Expected to assist other departments as needed
  • Expected to monitor cleanliness and safety throughout the entire store, not just the “home” department
  • Other related duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Requires standing, walking, bending, and/or climbing throughout the entire work day
  • Repetitive arm and hand movements; bending, carrying, and lifting
  • Requires transferring product either horizontally or vertically of up to 50 pounds
  • Weekend, evening, and holiday work will be required; flexible store assignments and hours
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
